The Opportunity
Our client is a reputable, growing Healthcare Group who are based in Melbourne’s CBD. Currently, there are more than 3,000 staff on a weekly and fortnightly payroll and the payroll team is made up of 5. They are in an exciting growth and transition phase as they acquire and integrate new businesses. As such, it is expected that the headcount will continue to grow and there will be project opportunities to integrate systems and improve efficiencies.
This is a newly created, permanent full-time position, aligned to company growth. As Group Payroll Manager, you will play a pivotal role in developing current payroll processes, payroll systems and the payroll team.
The Challenge
Reporting into the Group Financial Controller, your key responsibilities will include:
- Processing all payroll transactions for over 3,000 employees (weekly and fortnightly).
- Reviewing and implementing compliance changes to payroll processes and systems to ensure a best practice standard is maintained.
- Processing payroll updates such as new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Providing leadership and understanding regarding end-of-financial-year requirements and taking ownership of delivering the outputs in line with the Australian Taxation Law.
- Managing the preparation of all State and Federal tax obligations including PAYG tax, STP lodgments and Superannuation Guarantee contributions.
- Maintaining Payroll training guidelines and updating related company policies and procedures.
- Ensuring the Payroll systems are compliant with statutory requirements and Award requirements.
The Expertise

- We are looking for an established Payroll Manager, with experience managing a similar-sized payroll function, in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
- Advanced computer literacy in Microsoft products, particularly Excel as well as established accounting packages
- Be able to work autonomously or as part of a team
- Team player and ability to work well with stakeholders
- Highly organised with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities
- Excellent communication skills and with ability to lead by example
